To address the need of health professionals for ready access to timely, current and authoritative guidance that answers the day-to-day questions encountered in practice in all settings, Dietitians of Canada has developed PEN - Practice-Based Evidence in Nutrition.
PEN is designed using a "Knowledge Pathway" approach. Each Knowledge Pathway addresses a topic from the broad spectrum of practice in dietetics:
- institutional care
- primary health care
- public/community health
- consulting/private practice
- food service management
- professional education
- food and the pharmaceutical industry
- government
Experts in each practice topic have defined practice questions, searched and graded the literature relevant to the topic, synthesized the evidence into Key Practice Points or recommendations and identified and evaluated the best practice tools and resources, bringing this information all together within the knowledge pathway.
Search tips:
- If you perform a search using a phrase without quotations, for example if you enter Child Nutrition (without quotations), the search feature will search for all records that include Child AND Nutrition. If you search using a phrase with quotations. For example, if you enter "Child Nutrition" (with quotations) the search feature will search for all records that include "Child Nutrition" as a phrase.
- The wildcard symbol (an asterisk *) is a way to expand your search.
For example, if you enter Nut*, all documents that include Nut will be returned (such as nutrition, nutrient, nutrients, and so on).
- To select more than one criterion in the advanced search mode within the "Target Group", "Nutrition and Lifestyle", "Clinical Nutrition," or "Food Nutrient Issues" fields, click on your selections while holding down the CONTROL (CTRL) key on your keyboard.
