Question: How do I find journal articles in the CML?
Answer: The CML has a limited number of print journals. However, there are several additional ways to find what you are looking for without leaving the building by searching one of our full-text electronic databases or using electronic journals.
If you have a topic in mind:
There are many electronic indexes and databases that you may
choose to search when doing educational research. For quick
full-text access to a topic, we suggest EBSCO's Professional
Development Collection. The Professional Development Collection is a periodical index designed for professional educators, which
provides a highly specialized collection of over 500 full-text
journal articles.
The CML provides an easy link to this database, and other similar education databases, through the research portion of our website at http://www.library.unlv.edu/cml/research.
Additionally, you may access this resource from the CML website by clicking on "Journal Articles" from the top menu. To go directly to the Professional Development Collection database, click on "P" and scroll down to "Professional Development Collection."
Once you have connected to this resource, you may do either a basic or an advanced search on your topic. Clicking in the box labeled "Full text" will limit your search results to full-text journal articles only. Clicking the box labeled "Peer Reviewed" will limit your search to scholarly journals rather than popular magazines.
If you have a specific journal in mind:
From the CML home page, click on "Journal Articles" from the top menu, then click on "UNLV print and online journal subscriptions." Type the name of the journal in the search box and click "Search." This should bring up the record for the journal that you are looking for. You may have to scroll through a few titles. The result "University of Nevada Las Vegas Holdings" means that the University Libraries subscribe to the title in print or microfiche. Clicking on this will link you into the Libraries Catalog for the call number of the title. You will most likely need to travel to Lied Library to access this title. Any other result indicates that the journal is at least partially available full-text in one of the Libraries electronic databases or journals. Clicking on this result will link you to the online version of the title. If the journal that you are looking for is not listed, see a staff member for assistance, or use Document Delivery Services.
