Other
Although loan periods vary, all patrons, including faculty, are only guaranteed a loan period of two weeks, after which books are subject to recall if they are needed by another university-affiliated patron. Books that are needed for Reserve are subject to immediate recall. Holds may be placed on books at the Circulation Desk. All books borrowed from the Library MUST be returned to the UNLV Libraries (book drops are located throughout the campus), the CSN Libraries, or to your home library's Interlibrary Loan office. Books returned to Clark County libraries will remain charged to your card until they reach the UNLV Library, and you will be responsible for fees assessed on overdue materials. Books cannot be renewed by telephone. However, if your card is in good standing you may renew books on-line by following the instructions posted at http://library.unlv.edu/circ/renewonl.html. You may not renew a book if another patron has placed a hold on it. If renewing in person, you MUST have the books and your library card with you.

YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR LIBRARY CARD TO CIRCULATION STAFF WHEN CHECKING OUT OR RENEWING ALL LIBRARY MATERIALS

Fines and Lost Books

  • Fines are assessed on overdue books at $.20 per day, per book, to a maximum of $15.00. The system will charge overdue fines beginning the first day the book is overdue, but will not generate a bill for a fine that is less than $1.00.
  • When a book is overdue more than 28 days, it will be declared lost and you will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a NONREFUNDABLE $35.00 PROCESSING FEE. If the book is returned before it is reordered, only the replacement cost will be refunded.
  • Fines on recalled books which are not returned by the new due date on the recall notice will be assessed at the rate of $2.00 per day, per book, with no maximum. All patrons who fail to respond to a recall notice, including faculty, must pay recall fines. In addition, library privileges will be suspended until the recalled item is returned and the fine is paid. Patrons with outstanding charges or overdue books will lose their library privileges.

NOTE: NOTICES ARE MAILED OUT ONLY AS A COURTESY. IF YOU DO
NOT RECEIVE NOTICES YOU ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURNING OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS AND/OR PAYMENT OF ANY FINES OR FEES INCURRED. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY THE LIBRARY OF ANY ADDRESS CHANGES, SO THAT YOU MAY RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF OVERDUE MATERIALS OR FINES OWED.

Due Dates

Due dates will either be stamped inside the item or printed on a receipt. Knowing the due date is your responsibility. If you are unsure of when your items are due, you may view your record online at http://webpac.library.unlv.edu/patroninfo or contact Circulation at 702-895-2111.

COMPUTER ACCESS in Lied Library:
Your library card allows you to access the Internet on all computer workstations. Your patron ID (barcode #) serves as your login number.

Library Card Fees

First Registration Free
First Replacement $1.00
Subsequent Replacements $5.00

Library cards expire at the end of each semester. You must show a valid picture I.D. and proof of current registration to update your card.

If You Cannot Find a Book in the Library

Ask for assistance at the Research & Information Desk. If the book has been checked out, you may place a hold on it at the Circulation Desk. You will be notified by telephone when the book is available. If we cannot reach you by telephone, we will mail you a notice. We will hold the book for you for seven days from the time we call you or mail the notice. If a book that is supposed to be on the shelf cannot be located, you may complete a Search Request at the Circulation Desk and an in-house search will be initiated. You will be notified when the book is located or if the book cannot be found within two weeks.

YOUR LIBRARY CARD IS LIKE A CREDIT CARD AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ITEMS CHECKED OUT ON IT. IF YOUR CARD IS LOST OR STOLEN, NOTIFY THE UNLV CIRCULATION DESK AT 702-895-2111
