CIRCULATION POLICY FOR CORPORATE BORROWERS

To address the specialized business, scientific, and technical information needs of the corporate community of Nevada, UNLV Libraries extend borrowing privileges to the corporate community in accordance with the policies and conditions described below.

Borrowers must present their library card to Circulation staff when checking out or renewing all library materials.

REGISTRATION FEES

For an annual registration fee of $275, an organization or company with offices in Nevada will be issued up to two library cards. Additional library cards may be obtained for an annual fee of $50 per card.

For a registration fee of $175, an organization or company with offices in Nevada may choose the option of obtaining borrowing privileges for a period of six months only. Up to two library cards may be obtained for this fee. Additional library cards may be obtained for a fee of $50 per card for the six-month period.

Government and nonprofit agencies will be exempt from paying registration fees.

Other Registration Requirements

Each library card will be registered to an individual within the business or organization who agrees to assume responsibility for all materials checked out on the card, and for paying all fines and fees accrued for lost, overdue, or damaged materials. In order to obtain the card, the responsible party must fill out an application, pay the required fees, and show a current Nevada driver's license or Nevada ID card containing the applicant's current street address. We also request the applicant's social security number. If the registrant cannot come to the Library to register, a photocopy of his/her driver's license and proof of social security number must accompany the application.

Employment or affiliation with the business or organization will be verified before the corporate borrower's card is issued.

LOAN PERIOD

Books may be checked out for a period of three weeks, and may be renewed twice (unless a hold request has been placed on them). Corporate borrowers are allowed to have a total of ten books checked out at one time on each card. All books are subject to recall if needed by UNLV faculty or students. Corporate borrowers may not recall a book that is in circulation, but may request that the book be held for them when it is returned. Hold requests may be placed at the Circulation Desk at Lied or any of the Libraries' branches.

Books may be returned to the library from which you borrowed them, or to any of the book drops located throughout the UNLV campus. Books returned to a book drop when the library is closed will be checked in and backdated to the last day when the library was open.

UNLV Library books may also be returned to any of the Community College branch libraries, Nevada State College, or to the Law Library at UNLV. Books returned to the Las Vegas or Clark County public libraries will remain charged to your card until they reach the UNLV Libraries, and you will be responsible for fees assessed on overdue materials.

RENEWING BOOKS

Books cannot be renewed by telephone. However, if your card is in good standing (i.e. no money owed, no overdue items, library card is not expired), you may renew books online by following the instructions posted at http://www.library.unlv.edu/circ/renewonl.html. You may not renew a book if another patron has placed a hold on it, or if you have already renewed it twice. If renewing in person, you must have the books and your library card with you.

FINES AND LOST BOOKS

Fines are assessed on overdue books at $.20 per day, per book, to a maximum of $15.00 per book. There is no grace period. The system will charge overdue fines beginning the first day the book is overdue, but will not generate a bill for a fine that is less than $1.00. Overdue fines continue to accrue on holidays and other days when the Libraries are closed. Books that are returned to a book drop when the library is closed will be checked-in backdated to the last day the library was open. Fines on recalled books not returned by the new due date on the recall notice will be charged at the rate of $2.00 per day, per book, with no maximum.

When a book is 28 days overdue, it will be declared lost, and the person to whom the card is registered will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a NON-REFUNDABLE PROCESSING FEE OF $35.00. If the book is returned before it reordered, only the replacement cost will be refunded.

Failure to respond to overdue notices or bills for replacement will result in the account being turned over to a collection agency. At this point, the person to whom the card is registered will be responsible for paying collection costs in addition to accrued fines or fees.

NOTE! Notices are mailed out only as a courtesy. If you do not receive notices, you are still responsible for returning overdue library books and/or payment of any fees or fines incurred. It is your responsibility to notify the library of any address or email changes, so that you may receive notification of overdue materials or fines owed.

COMPUTER ACCESS in the University Libraries
