The following are the most commonly encountered codes for books format Fixed Fields. Other codes may be valid in some circumstances; see the OCLC MARC Fixed Field Lists for details.
Type: Do not modify
Bib lvl: Do not modify
Source: Must be blank if 040 | is DLC, otherwise should be "d". May be "c" in certain records.
Lang: Three letter code for the language of the item. Most common codes:
- cze=Czech
- dut=Dutch
- eng=English
- fre=French
- ger=German
- ita=Italian
- jpn=Japanese
- pol=Polish
- rus=Russian
- spa=Spanish
Repr: Normally blank. Other common codes encountered are:
- a=microfilm
- b=microfiche
- z=other form of reproduction
Enc lvl: Do not modify
Conf pub:
- 0=not a conference publication
- 1=a conference publication
Ctry: Two- or three-letter country code. For states of the USA, use the two-letter postal code
plus the letter "u". Most common other codes encountered are:
- bcc=British Columbia, Canada
- cc=China ("Red" China)
- cs=Czechoslovakia
- enk=England
- fr=France
- gw=postwar Germany (do not use ge or wb)
- gx=Germany (before the division of the country)
- ie=Ireland
- jp=Japan
- mx=Mexico
- ne=Netherlands
- onc=Ontario, Canada
- pl=Poland
- po=Portugal
- ru=Russia (Federation)
- sa=South Africa
- si=Singapore
- sp=Spain

Dates: Dates as found in 260|c. Second date may also be original date of publication if a reprint, as found in a note
