Fixed Field Reference Guide

The following are the most commonly encountered codes for books format Fixed Fields. Other codes may be valid in some circumstances; see the OCLC MARC Fixed Field Lists for details.

Type: Do not modify

Bib lvl: Do not modify

Source: Must be blank if 040 | is DLC, otherwise should be "d". May be "c" in certain records.

Lang: Three letter code for the language of the item. Most common codes:
Repr: Normally blank. Other common codes encountered are: Enc lvl: Do not modify

Conf pub: Ctry: Two- or three-letter country code. For states of the USA, use the two-letter postal code plus the letter "u". Most common other codes encountered are: Indx: Mod rec: Do not modify.

Govt pub: Blank if not a government publication. Other common codes: Cont: Use up to four codes. Desc: Int lvl: Do not modify.

Festschr: Illus: Use up to four codes. Do not use codes not on this list. F/B: First indicator ("F"): Second indicator ("B"): Dat tp:
Dates: Dates as found in 260|c. Second date may also be original date of publication if a reprint, as found in a note
