Curriculum Materials Library (CML) Cataloging

Dust Jackets: Do not discard dust jackets. CML places the barcode on the back of the dust jacket (barcode placement may vary, but is generally on the back upper right corner).

Added Copies to Main Stacks Record: If a CML item already has a main library record on INNOPAC, the cataloger may add the CML item to the Lied Library record as an added copy 2, 3 etc. If the CML item requires a unique CML call number format the cataloger should create a duplicate record and add juvenile subject headings as needed.

Genre Stickers: Genre stickers are no longer stapled to the decision slips. The stickers will be attached to the book at CML.

Decision Slips: Leave the blue decision slip in the book and write the designated location and the call number in the top left corner of the slip for the BMS students. (If there are several items in a set, transfer the p.o. to one bib record and write the call number on the blue slip. For the other items in the set, write the call number on a white slip of paper(basically the same size as the blue decision slips.) Write the location and call number in the top left corner of the slip.

Gifts: If the blue decision slip is checkmarked as a gift, insert a note in the item record by pressing "i" for Insert -- "X" for the "notes" field, and "CML Gift" as the note.

Subject Headings: Always verify that (as appropriate) juvenile subdivisions are attached to every 6xx 0. If there are no 6xx 0's be sure to add subject headings as needed.

The subdivisions "Juvenile fiction" and "Juvenile literature" will be used most frequently. Don't forget to change all "fiction" subfields to "Juvenile fiction". Books (usually those designated for PMC) which obviously specify "Thematic units" should have a "650 0 Thematic Units. " subject heading. (but do not put it on originals as this is a local subject heading). PMC books which are for adults should not have a juvenile subdivision. You will always need to insert the "Juvenile picture books" subject headings to CML PicBk (this is a local subject heading and not used in OCLC records).

CML Call Numbers: The location for Juvenile PicBk is UNLCI and call number must be put in an 099 (do not use 090 or 050) 099's will take precedence over the 050 therefore you don't need to delete the 050s. MARC format for CML PicBk call numbers will look like this:

099 PicBk Ambercrombie

Bilingual 099 call numbers will begin with Bi Li (that is "Bi space Li"), and Early Readers will begin with ER, followed by the authors last name. Bi Li and ER locations will most likely be UNLC. Some examples of Non MARC format for CML call numbers :

099 Bi Li Eden
099 ER Diaz
099 PicBk Downs
099 JuvFic Fabbi

Always use 099 for any Non MARC call number format.

It is not necessary to put "J" in the encoding level (this was done in the past, but no longer). You will see PMC at the end of many call numbers for Professional Materials Collection books, but since scoping has been added for CML materials it is no longer needed.

-- -- 520/521's: Many Juvenile books use "520"'s . If no 520 exists feel free to add a description if you have time.

-- -- Location Codes: Be sure to change INNOPAC bib records to the appropriate location for all books that have a 5 digit location (i.e. UNLCW for PMC, UNLCR for REF, UNLCI for Picture Books, etc.)

-- Per CML staff instructions, BMS students do not put label protectors on CML books with dust jackets (nor do they insert date due slips). The students capture the call numbers and attach the labels, insert tattletape, place a red "Curriculum Materials Library" stamp on the top edge of the book and place a red CML address stamp on the title page.

CML Juvenile fiction with PS classifications and ALL PZ7 call numbers should be changed to the CML 099 JuvFic format. Juvenile fiction format would appear as: 099 JuvFic Jones. If in doubt call a CML staff member. Any PZ 7 call number should have a location code of unlcf (CML Juvenile Fiction)
