"Since I have not seen all of the movies listed here[ASL Blog], I can only strongly recommend (instead of wishfully require) that design students watch Koyaanisqatsi, a film produced by Francis Ford Coppola. While several new movie initiatives present clear problems and prescribe specific remedies, Coppola's 1982 (timeless) motion picture invites contemplation and discussion of alternative modes of interpretation and remediation regarding our roles in the environment/life. When I came to this junction (not too long ago) esteemed composer and director Stephen Melillo listened to my dilemma and suggested that I read this book. I didn’t know what it was, so I expected to read it and choose the musical path. Long story short, here I am. Did Stephen think I’d choose otherwise? "Perhaps students in all of the disciplines of the school would enjoy The Soundscape of Modernity by Emily Thompson. It is a very thorough analysis of the built environment at the turn of the last century through one of the senses that is too often ‘over-looked’.
