Project Background Statement
The intent of the Acacia Demonstration Gardens was to create a state-of-the-art demonstration garden that would exhibit best management landscape practices and serve as a learning resource center for the public.
One of the main goals of the project was to add recreational and educational opportunities for residents throughout southern Nevada. The Gardens encourage area residents and visitors to use best management practices relating to soil air wildlife, plants, and water resources.
The Demonstration Gardens include varying shaped “yards” that show effective landscape techniques for the desert southwest. The Project demonstrates conservation practices, such as appropriate plants and trees for the desert environment, attracting and protecting wildlife, nutrient management, integrated pest management, water conservation, and erosion control methods.
Another educational aspect is programs held at the Demonstration Gardens to draw the public into the gardens and educate them on best management practices. Some of the programs have included the “Meet the Expert” Event. The expert included Henderson Water Watchers- Sprinkler Clock Demonstration, the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the Conservation District of Southern Nevada, the Master Gardeners, Tom Mehlan-Certified Arborist and Member of the Trees for Tomorrow Committee, and Norm Shilling- Horticulturist and ISA Certified Arborist, Schilling Horticulture Group.

Some of the more notable aspects are the variety of spaces and breadth of plantings throughout the garden. No matter the shape, size, or desired theme of one’s own yard the Acacia Demonstration Gardens educa
