Estancia Open Space Park in Summerlin
This quarter-acre park is the focal point just inside the entry of a 32-acre residential parcel located in The Vistas in Summerlin. The owner’s choice of design was for a strictly passive park meeting the community need of a resting place/gathering place for residents. The site amenities included colorful metal chairs, tables, benches, and trash receptacles, as well as seatwalls with flagstone veneer, varying height decorative walls jutting into the landscape, and metal trellis systems all designed to match The Vistas color and materials palette. As a safety design feature, the large open areas of turf for kids to play were micro-managed with low-angle trajectory irrigation heads in order to minimize overspray onto the sidewalks. Plantings that are ornamental and drought tolerant in nature were used throughout to provide community integration of the overall master plan. Pedestrian circulation, pathway lighting and low groundcover were considered for safe evening usage.
