Our ASL materials are shelved by call number* -- Here's how:

Note: Materials on second floor of the ASL all begin with the letter "N" . Call numbers "A" to "Z" OTHER than "N" are on first floor. Also, note that locations "ARCH" and "ARCH OVERSIZE" are all the same (i.e. Arch Book Stacks)
Find out what the major call numbers areas stand for in the CALL NUMBER CLASSIFICATION outline.

1. First, the materials are shelved by location "ARCH" and then alphabetically by the first line of the call number:
ARCH N 2455 J44 T3	comes before	ARCH NA 1220 F6 T4	comes before	ARCH NC 171 A8 N6	comes before	ARCH NK 171 F14 G7
2. If the first lines are the same, proceed to the next line. This line is shelved numerically:
ARCH NA 41 S34 F4	comes before	ARCH OVERSIZE NA 47 B2 J67	comes before	ARCH NA 47.5 G6 M67	comes before	ARCH NA 135 D5 A6
3. If the first two lines are the same, then proceed to the next line:
ARCH HT 41 B46	comes before	ARCH HT 41 B5	comes before	ARCH HT 41 B6	comes before	ARCH HT 41 C26
The numbers on the third line are seen as decimals (even though the decimal point is not there!). .46 is smaller than .5, so it would be shelved first (to the left). B6 comes before C26 because materials are shelved first alphabetically, then numerically.

*Call numbers are assigned to each book and item on the Libraries' shelves. Each call number is composed of letters and numbers, and indicates a subject. For instance the letters NA on the top line represent the subject Architecture.
