UNLV School of Architecture welcomed lecturer
Simon Velez on February 9, 2005

The internationally known architect Simon Velez spoke about bamboo construction and illustrated the innovative techniques he has used throughout his native Colombia and other countries of the world. Simon has been recognized for his use of bamboo (guadua) as a visible building material.

Mr. Velez was born in Manizales colombia. He has received a Master in Architecture and Art from the Universidad de las Andes in Bogota, Colombia. His works include the Alternative Cathedral and the Guadua Pavillion at Expo-Hannover 2000.

Mr. Velez also conducted a workshop about bamboo building techniques during his visit to UNLV. He has conducted similiar workshops in South America and France.
