| Description: | Mirabelli Community Center is located in the heart of an old established residential neighborhood in the City of Las Vegas. The purpose of this project was to demolish the older, outdated, Mirabelli Community Center and replace it with a more modern facility, designed to meet the community’s growing program needs including gymnastics and basketball. Tight site constraints, the 95 freeway to the north, and the established residential neighborhood to the south, presented a unique design challenge to accommodate the large programmatic requirements for the facility. To address this, the community center was designed around a “mall” concept utilizing a long spine as the backbone of the facility with various community rooms accessible from the main corridor. Additional consideration was given to the gymnastics program on one end of the facility and basketball on the opposite end. Both programs were given equal attention by providing main entries from either side of the building into designated lobby spaces for welcoming special events. Building area was 31,500 square feet and materials used included concrete, steel and stucco. |
